Terms of use
Last updated 23 October 2026
Short version: the site is free and run by one person. Post only what is true and yours to share, treat other people well, and check details before you rely on them. We can remove anything that breaks these rules.
1. Who runs the site
Algarve Offseason is run by a private individual, Dev Nain, in Portimão, Portugal. It is not a company and it is free to use. In these terms "we" means Algarve Offseason and "you" means anyone using the site. Contact: hello@algarveoffseason.com.
By using the site you accept these terms. How we handle your personal data is in the separate privacy notice.
2. Your account
- You need to be 16 or older to have an account, and 18 or older to sign up for SpeedSocial.
- One account per person. Use your own email address and a name that isn't offensive or someone else's.
- You are responsible for what is done with your account. If you think someone else is using it, sign out everywhere and tell us.
3. What you post
This covers places, events, listings, photos, ratings, reports, tips, messages and anything else you add.
- It must be true as far as you know, and you must have the right to share it. Only upload photos you took yourself or are allowed to use.
- If you list a service you offer yourself (under Neighbours for Hire), you're responsible for any registration, insurance and tax your work needs.
- You keep ownership of it. You let us show it on the site, and change its size or format to do that, for free, for as long as it is on the site.
- Not allowed: anything illegal; scams or false listings; spam or repeated advertising; harassment, threats or hate; sexual content; other people's personal details (such as a phone number or address) without their permission; anything that pretends to be someone else.
- We may edit, hide or remove anything that breaks these rules or that we reasonably think is wrong or harmful, and we may suspend or close the account that posted it. Where we can, we tell you first.
4. Information on the site
Opening hours, prices, events and other details come from members, businesses and public maps, and they change. Many places are marked "Not checked yet". Check anything important (such as whether a place is open, or whether an event is still on) before you travel or pay. If something is wrong, use "Suggest a change" or "Report" on its page.
5. Events, groups and businesses run by others
Events posted by partner groups, members or businesses are run by them, not by us. They are responsible for their event, its price and its venue. Algarve Offseason runs only the events that say so on their page, such as Meeple Mondays and our own SpeedSocial evenings.
If you claim a business listing, you confirm that you own the business or are allowed to act for it, and that what you post about it is accurate.
6. SpeedSocial
- You must be 18 or older and give your real age and first name.
- Treat every guest with respect. No pressure, no following anyone up who didn't pick you, and no photos of other guests or their name plates without their permission. The host may ask anyone to leave who makes the evening unpleasant or unsafe for others.
- Matches are only shared when both people picked each other. Use a match's email address only to contact that person, and stop if they ask you to.
- For evenings we run, the deposit amount and how to pay are on the event's page and in your confirmation email. The deposit is returned to you when you arrive. If you cancel or don't come, it is donated to a local charity: we keep none of it. If we cancel an evening, we return every deposit in full. If you can't come, cancel on My events as early as you can, so someone on the waiting list can have your place.
- Some evenings are run and sold by an independent organiser, named on the event's page. For those, you pay the organiser directly, and payments, refunds and the evening itself are their responsibility, under the refund rule on the event's page.
7. Points and deals
- Points are a thank-you for taking part. They have no cash value and can't be sold, swapped or moved to someone else. We may correct points given by mistake and remove points gained by cheating, such as fake events or confirmations.
- Neighbours for Hire points are only for real work that another member confirms. These rules apply:
- Points are only given for a job when the person who posted it confirms on the job page that it was done. Posting a job, offering to do one, or tapping "I need this too" earns nothing.
- Both accounts must be at least 14 days old, and each of you must already have 50 points from other things on the site (for example a game night or a confirmed place).
- The same two people earn job points together at most once every 60 days, whoever helped whom.
- Each member can earn at most 300 Neighbours for Hire points a season (1 June to 31 May), listing points included.
- Job points wait 7 days before they count, so the organiser can check them. Listing points count straight away, because the organiser has already checked the listing.
- Jobs made up to earn points, two accounts belonging to one person, or confirming a job that didn't happen will cost the points involved, and can close the accounts.
- We may change how many points things are worth, and the deal levels, from season to season.
- Deals are offered by the businesses themselves, which decide the terms shown with each deal. If a business won't honour a deal, tell us and we will take it up with them, but we can't force them to.
- Businesses that offer deals agree to honour them as described, on the days and dates shown, until the deal ends or they remove it.
8. Neighbours for Hire, housing and trips
Neighbours for Hire, housing listings and trips are a noticeboard between members. We are not an agency for work, an estate agency or a travel agent: we don't check anyone's work, qualifications or properties, act for anyone, or take any money. Arrangements, and any payments, are between you and the other person. That includes jobs posted under Neighbours for Hire: we only pass the job on and put you in touch with the person you choose. Rides and airport runs can't be posted as jobs or offered as a service, because jobs and listings here are for paid work, and in Portugal driving someone for pay needs a taxi or TVDE (ride-hailing) licence. Never pay anything before you have seen a property in person or by live video, and report any listing that looks like a scam.
9. What we can and can't promise
We keep the site running as well as we reasonably can, but it is a free service in beta, so we can't promise it will always be available, free of errors, or that emails will always arrive. We may change, pause or remove parts of the site.
We are not responsible for losses that come from relying on information posted by others, from dealings between members, businesses and organisers, or from events we don't run. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility where the law does not allow it to be limited, for example for harm we cause deliberately or through gross negligence, or for death or personal injury. Nothing here takes away any rights you have under consumer law.
10. Ending
You can stop using the site at any time. To delete your account, email hello@algarveoffseason.com. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
11. Changes
We may update these terms as the site changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change matters to how you use the site, we will say so on the site before it takes effect.
12. Law and complaints
These terms are governed by Portuguese law. If you have a complaint, please email us first and we will try to sort it out.
